Summer Reading
I'm off on a holiday in a couple of weeks time and I want to take some stuff to read whilst I'm sitting by the pool or listening to crickets at night. Not too trashy, but not too heavy. Could be new or an old classic. Am a bit stuck. Any recommendations?

How about Two Lives by Vikram Seth - a biographical account of his uncle shanti's time training to be a dentist in Berlin at the time of the rise of Hitler. Beautifully written and quite illuminating especially about friendships were tested in the run up to WWll. (also read on Radio 4 by the author)
There's always Shantaram by Gregory Roberts - but it's so thick and his prose is so unnecessarily flowery - although I know some people who said that they loved it!
The Day After Tomorrow. Trust me!

How about the Sunday Times? Normally takes me all week to read.
